The Written Time Wristwatch

This is the watch that writes out the time conversationally, offering “exactly 4” instead of 4:00, and “10 past 12” instead of 12:10. Eschewing traditional hands and minute marks, this watch employs a disk with a window that rotates to reveal descriptors like “5 till,” “10 past,” and “quarter till.” Meanwhile an opaque white tab travels the perimeter of the face revealing the black hourly numerals stamped on the glass above. Price $129.95

The 12 phrases come in 5-minute increments – from “5 past” to “5 till” – for those whose casual approach to chronological exactitude has them arriving at work at “half past 8” rather than the more unforgiving 8:31. Designed by Daniel Will-Harris, a graphic artist dubbed “truly unique” by the Museum of Modern Art, for whom he has designed several iconoclastic watches.
